About 600 schools, libraries, clinics and police stations in the Eastern Cape are set to be connected to the internet by the end of June as part of a Liquid Intelligent Technologies contract that was once the subject of court battle.
The company was awarded a contract to connect 2 700 government facilities in a partnership between the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) and the Eastern Cape provincial government.
Liquid CEO Deon Geyser said over R1.4 billion would be spent on the project which will provide internet at the speed of 100Mbps and gradually increase to 1Gbps, as part of the government-driven public broadband programme.
